你做什么工作? (nǐ zuò shénme gōngzuò?) What job do you do?

Let’s pick back up being able to introduce yourself. One of the things people like to talk about is what kind of job they do. So the next time somebody asks you, 你做什么工作? (nǐ zuò shénme gōngzuò?) What job do you do? you can answer with something like:

我是。。。 (wǒ shì …) I am [a] …

… followed by:

  • 老师 (lǎoshī) teacher
  • 律师 (lǜshī) lawyer
  • 医生 (yīshēng) doctor
  • 护士 (hùshi) nurse
  • 会计 (kuàijì) accountant
  • 家庭主妇 (jiātínɡ zhǔfù) housewife
  • 经理 (jīnglǐ) manager
  • 公司职员 (gōngsī zhíyuán) company employee
  • 科学家 (kēxuéjiā) scientist
