With Valentine’s Day behind us, it’s time to ask: 你最近怎么样？ (nǐ zuìjìn zěnmeyàng?) How have you been lately?
How was your Valentine’s Day? Maybe it’s a bit too early … but then again maybe not, it’s easy when your 女/男朋友 (nǚ/nán péngyou) girl/boyfriend is so amazing, right? Maybe you can say to her/him (or save it for when the time is right):
我爱你 (wǒ ài nǐ) I love you
Maybe the feeling was so strong it was:
一见钟情 (yī jiàn zhōng qíng) Love at first sight
*blushes* so sweet. And you can start calling her/him your darling:
亲爱的 (qīn’ài de) Darling
Or maybe you like to call her/him:
宝贝 (bǎobèi) Baby
Or just try a transliteration of English with:
甜心 (tiánxīn) Sweetheart
Don’t worry, if it didn’t happen last week, just get out there and try! If you ever have troubles starting something, just remember 老子 (Lǎo Zǐ) Lao Zi’s famous saying from the 道德经 (Dào Dé Jīng,) written some time in the 6th century BCE:
千里之行，始于足下 (Qiān lǐ zhī xíng, shǐ yú zú xià) A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
PS: did you know that saying was from 老子 (Lǎo Zǐ)?
